We pray in so many different ways. Some of us pray using big fancy words like, 'most gracious, auspicious, omnipotent God...' Some simply ask for blessing, after blessing, after blessing. And many of us pray before we go to bed at night only to fall asleep on God.
Wouldn't it be nice to know how to pray simple, powerful, and effective prayers?
Well, Jesus' disciples wanted to know how to pray and asked Christ to teach them just how to do it. His lesson gave them some insight into how to pray effective prayers.
We can gain the same insight and extract 6 keys from the model Jesus gave called the 'Lord's Prayer'. This prayer is found in the sixth chapter of the Gospel of Matthew.
Key 1: Recognize the Holiness and sovereignty of your Heavenly Father.
"Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name" ~Matthew 6:9
Key 2: Seek God's will and purpose for your life, knowing that His will is the best plan for you.
"your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." ~vs. 10
Key 3: Always trust God's provision. He will supply all of your needs and give you the desires of your heart.
“Give us today our daily bread.” ~vs. 11
Key 4: Acknowledge and confess your sins. Quit carrying around the very thing that keeps you seperated from God.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” ~1 John 1:9
Key 5: Ask God for His forgiveness. He wants to forgive you and grow closer and more intimate with you.
"Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” ~vs. 12
Key 6: Seek God's guidance for your life. By following God's direction, you can ensure abundance, provision, peace, and prosperity in every area of your life.
"lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever. Amen." ~vs. 13
